While the Tanker may appear to be simply another functional addition to the Empire's industrial infrastructure, it is widely with creating the modern Empire as it ultimately supplies Earth with the resources required for survival. These resources are stripped from the colonies with the purpose of supporting either the Earth itself or the machinery set up by the Empire to administer this process. All opposition to Empire rule essentially derives from an opposition to these specific acts of theft. The Tanker, therefore, has become a potent symbol of the colonies' oppression".
